The March of the Groggs

from UFHO2 Original Soundtrack by Francesco D'Andrea

/

about

The March of the Groggs is the opening track for "UFHO Space Acedemy", the prequel to "UFHO2", by Tiny Colossus. With both single and multiplayer feature, it's a puzzle game to be released on iPhone, iPad and as a Facebook application.
In this score I made a large use of celesta and other chromatic percussions, combined with some synths in the central part, as well as pizzicato strings and an ukulele, in a small part of the track. The accent of the melodic sentences is often helped by timpani, a glocken and metal percussions, while some other wood percussions and triangle are involved in the orchestration to help the "jig about" dynamic of the entire piece, together with a frenquent, bouncy bass line. The counterpoint is often put light and down in the mix, you can hear some flutes or horn section near from the beginning part, together with tuba staccatos (second 0.52). In the middle of the track the UFHO atmosphere slowly comes out with synth voices, which together with a clarinet make a continuum with the ending part of the "Interstellar Walk" track, for the same game. The outro is played with the main instruments that you'll find in mostly every previous part of the piece, with a constant decay of the dynamics until the end with a cello pizzicato.
